Postdoctoral Position in Experimental Astrophysics

A postdoctoral position in experimental astrophysics is available in the group of Professor Gianfranco Vidali at Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY (USA). The candidate will work on a new project to study the formation of molecules on surfaces of interstellar dust analogues. The position begins in early 2010 and is for one year renewable for a second year. The successful candidate should hold a PhD in physics or related field and have a strong experience in ultra-high vacuum and surface science techniques. Additional experience in atomic/molecular beams and low temperature techniques is a plus. Review of materials will begin immediately and applications will be considered until the position is filled. 2 Postdoctoral Positions in Single-molecule Science and Nanobiotechnology

Two immediate NIH-funded postdoctoral positions in experimental single-molecule biophysics and bionanoscience are available in the group of Professor Liviu Movileanu at Syracuse University, Syracuse (NY). The candidate should be a recent Ph.D. in physics, biophysics, chemical biology or a related field and with experience in at least one of the following areas: single-molecule biophysics, biomolecular engineering, nanofabrication and ultrasensitive electrical measurements. The successful candidates will employ nanopore probe techniques to detect proteins and nucleic acids by single-molecule stochastic sensing. The initial appointment is for two years with the possibility for renewal positions in the following years. These positions involve both fundamental and applicative research as well as advising graduate students in a highly interdisciplinary and self-contained research team. Salary is negotiable based upon experience and research abilities. Review of materials will begin immediately and applications will be considered until the positions are filled. Qualified candidates should send their curriculum vitae, a list of publications, a short description of their qualifications and the e-mail addresses/phone numbers of three references to Professor Liviu Movileanu (lmovilea@physics.syr.edu). Electronic application materials are preferred (please include them as an e-mail attachment).

Further information about the research pursued by Professor Movileanu’s group is available at the following link: www.physics.syr.edu/~lmovilea.
